Today we are making bang bang chicken skewers in the air fryer. This recipe is easy and comes together in under 30 minutes, perfect for week night dinner. Pair it with some flavoured rice and salad and it becomes a perfect meal all together. The marinade is pretty simply and all the flavours are in the bang bang sauce, which is the star of this recipe. The sauce is spicy, a bit sweet and tangy, enough to tantalise your taste buds!
WHAT IS BANG BANG CHICKEN SKEWERS?
The star of this recipe is the bang bang sauce which is made up of mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce, sriracha, garlic powder and some dried parsley. The boneless chicken thighs or chicken breast is cut into bite size pieces and then marinated with some spices. It is air fried until the chicken is slightly charred and tender. Once the chicken is out of the air fryer, it is generously drizzled with the bang bang sauce. The bang bang chicken skewers can be served as it is as a starter or can be made into a complete meal by serving with some flavoured rice and salad.
THE MARINADE
The marinade is very simple. First you cut the boneless chicken thighs into bite size pieces. You can use chicken breast as well, but I chose to use thighs because they are more flavourful and juicy. Add the chicken in a clean bowl and then season it with some paprika, red chilli powder, salt, onion powder, ginger and garlic ( either paste or powder), and some cooking oil. Mix everything well and if you have time leave it to marinate for 10 to 15 minutes. Thread the chicken pieces into the skewers and air fry until slightly charred.
BANG BANG SAUCE
The bang bang sauce is what makes this chicken super flavourful, so don’t miss this. All you need to make the bang bang sauce is some mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce, sriracha, garlic powder and some dried parsley. Mix everything in a bowl and voila, the bang bang sauce is ready. Once the chicken is out of the air fryer, generously drizzle the bang bang sauce over it and the most flavourful chicken is ready in no time.
SERVING BANG BANG CHICKEN SKEWERS
You can serve the bang bang chicken skewers just as it is, as a starter and they are going to be a bomb. But if you want to turn them into a complete meal you can do it. Serve it with some simple flavoured rice and a salad, this makes a complete protein packed healthy meal.

Equipment
- 5 Bamboo skewers or metal skewers
- 1 air fryer
Ingredients
CHICKEN MARINADE
- 1 KG Boneless chicken thighs cut into bite size pieces
- 1.5 tsp Paprika
- 3/4 tsp Red chilli powder
- 1.5 tsp Garlic powder or paste
- 1.5 tsp Ginger powder or paste
- Salt as per taste
- 1.5 tsp Onion powder
- 2 tbsp Oil
BANG BANG SAUCE
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp Sweet chilli sauce
- 2 tbsp Sriracha
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Dried parsley
Instructions
- In a bowl add bite size boneless chicken thighs and season with paprika, red chilli powder, salt, onion powder, ginger and garlic powder (or paste), oil and give it a good massage.
- Thread the chicken into the long bamboo skewers, and air fry at 185 degree celsius for 20 minutes. Each side should be air fried for 10 minutes.
- For the bang bang sauce, add mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce, sriracha, garlic powder and dried parsley in a bowl and mix everything until combined.
- Once the chicken skewers are out of the air fryer, brush them generously with the bang bang sauce. Serve with some flavoured rice and salad. Enjoy.
