MAKING THE DOUGH

Making the dough is really simple. We will we using instant fast action yeast to further simplify the process.

In a bowl you wanna add flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Mix these dry ingredients well, then add milk, egg and butter. Using a spatula roughly mix all of the ingredients. At this point the dough will be really sticky, but don’t worry about that, that’s exactly how it should be at this point of time. Now dust some flour over a clean working space. Transfer the dough to the working space and knead the dough really well for about 10 to 15 minutes. At this point the dough will be smooth and it will no longer be sticking to your fingers, and that’s when you know the dough is done. Cover the dough with a damp kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 60 to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the dough should double in size.

BAKING THE BUNS

Once the dough has doubled in size we divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion between your palms to make smooth dough balls. Place these dough balls in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover with a damp kitchen towel and we will let the proof for the second time for about 30 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven in the last 20 minutes to 175 degree celsius.

After 30 minutes egg wash the dough balls and bake in the oven at 175 degree celsius for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once they are done, transfer them to a wired rack and let them cool down completely before filling with cream cheese mixture.

MAKING CREAM CHEESE FILLING

In bowl add 300g cream cheese and break in until it is a bit soft. Now add whipping cream or some double cream, and mix until everything is combined and smooth. We add cream just to loosen up the cream cheese, this makes piping easy.

MAKING BUTTER GARLIC MIXTURE:

In another bowl, add egg, butter, minced garlic, and dried parsley. Whisk until everything is combined. If you do not like egg in your butter garlic mixture you can skip it.

FILLING THE KOREAN GARLIC CHEESE BUNS:

Once the buns have cooled down completely, cut them into 6 equal wedges, make sure not to cut the buns completely. Look at the video tutorial below that shows how to cut the buns.

Take a piping bag and fill it with the cream cheese mixture we prepared earlier. Now carefully pipe the cream cheese filling between each wedge. Do the same thing for all the buns. Once done dip the buns into the butter garlic mixture, and repeat the process for all the buns.

BAKING KOREAN GARLIC CHEESE BUNS:

Pre- heat the oven to 175 degree celsius.

Place all the filled buns in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake at 175 for about 15 to 20 minutes or until they are slightly crispy. Now all you have to do is enjoy!

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • If you feel making buns at home is too intimidating, then you can opt for store bought buns. It is so much easier to just fill out the buns and bake them until they turn a bit crispy.
  • If you do not want to use egg in your butter garlic mixture, feel free to omit it out.
